As the “stay at home” restrictions are gradually being lifted, there are still things you need to do and not do! And things you need to know!
We will cover: The Do’s and Don’ts for Lung Cancer Patients including is it OK to go places now? Masks or no Masks? Anything specific for lung cancer Survivors?
Join us for an open online discussion led by Morgan Gable, RN, Lung Cancer Navigator at the Novant Health Cancer Center. Morgan will be talking to lung cancer survivors about what are good practices now and in the future.

- Thursday, May 14th at 2pm: Planting Herbs and House Plants with Forsyth County Cooperative Extension Horticulturists!
Join the Forsyth County Cooperative Extension Horticulturists Leslie Peck and Mary Jac Brennen, who will show you how to plant herbs in a pot for your porch, patio, balcony, or sunny window sill! Julie will also lend tips on cooking with herbs and the nutritional value that it provides. Herb and cacti plants will be available for pickup at Cancer Services prior to the workshop!

Highlight on Hirsch Wellness Network!

A silver lining to the current crisis is that there are many opportunities to participate in programs online that previously were only offered in a physical building.
Hirsch Wellness Network, located in Greensboro, was founded in 2008 and offers cancer patients/survivors/caregivers a variety of wellness programs and they are currently all offered online!
Hirsch would be happy to have Cancer Services’ clients join in on their classes and there are many to choose from next week! All are free of charge!

Julie was interviewed for Northwest Area Health Education Center regarding myths and truths of plan based eating!

Julie asked her dietitian friends if they had any recipes they wanted to share with readers, and here’s one that came in from Sue Czap, RD, CSO. Sue is a Registered Dietitian and Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition for Pluta Integrative Oncology and Wellness Center at the University of Rochester/Wilmot Cancer Institute.
In this video, Sue highlights a recipe from Rebecca Katz, author of The Cancer Fighting Kitchen. Find the recipe here!
Sue also offers a variety of options for substitutions you can make based on what you have at home.

Join us for an open online discussion led by Anita Watson, RN, Lead Infection Preventionist at the Novant Health Cancer Center. Anita will be talking to blood cancer survivors about what are good practices now and in the future.
In order to participate in this program, you MUST REGISTER. Includes diagnoses of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
- Thursday, May 28th at 2pm: Nature Scavenger Hunt and Stump the Horticulturist!
Appreciate the wonder of nature and join us as Forsyth County Cooperative Extension Horticulturists Leslie Peck and Mary Jac Brennen discuss plants you might find as you wander through your yard, neighborhood or local park. We will ask you to go on a “scavenger hunt” for nature items before our session. Bring your items to our online group and we’ll see if the horticulturists can identify them!
