UPDATES!

Cancer Services, Inc. is excited to share about 2 new members on our engagement team! Dara Kurtz, an 11-year breast cancer survivor, will be providing Survivorship Mentoring & Support, and Shanu Onasanya is Cancer Services’ new Survivorship Coordinator, starting May 1st. Dara and Shanu will join Julie, Gloria and Joyce in supporting outreach programs that enhance health, life & survivorship for our community of survivors!

This month Julie recorded a Special Topic interview with Dara. Check out the video to hear more about Dara’s story of cancer diagnosis and survivorship and to hear:

  • What was the most significant mental or emotional shift she experienced after finishing treatment
  • How did she begin to rebuild identity after cancer
  • What tools or habits have helped her the most in navigating life post-cancer
  • The role that community played in her healing.

Dara will also be sharing a Thrive Tip of the Month each month! This month we pulled a tip from the interview mentioned above. Somewhere between surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, I had forgotten what “normal” life felt like. Fear followed me around like my shadow, and I was a different version of myself. From the moment I heard the words, “You have cancer,” my life was broken down into two parts: “BC” life before cancer, and “AC” life after cancer.  I had to figure out how to navigate my life as a cancer survivor and learn how to get back to everyday life.

Here are five tips that helped me learn how to thrive, not just survive:… read more
