There has never been more health information at our fingertips than there is today. For a cancer patient or survivor, this can be tricky.
At any time, day or night, you can pick up your phone, type a few words into Google, and instantly find thousands of articles about your type of cancer, treatment options, survival statistics, side effects, and the latest research. It’s almost too much.
The problem isn’t finding the information.

Art and Wellness
Thursday, August 27th at 2pm
Topic: Botanical Watercolors
Join Sawtooth School for Visual Arts for a monthly wellness group with a focus on art. The group will be virtual AND in-person.
Virtual class atendees must pickup their art supplies at the Cancer Services Office the week prior to class. In-person atendees can just show up to the Cancer Services office on class day!
Living on the EDGE
A special conference for women and caregivers who are dealing with and have been impacted by GYN cancers. Dinner will be provided.
On September 1st at 5:30pm at The Intergenerational Center for Arts & Wellness.

Highlight on 2026 Patient Advocate Award Winner Gilda Cowan, BS
For more than two decades, Cancer Services has recognized individuals who truly embody our mission—people who do anything, anytime, and in any way they can to make a positive difference in the lives of those living with cancer. This month, we recognize Gilda Cowan, a bilingual Cancer Prevention Navigator at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Center.
For over 6 years, Gilda has generously volunteered her time to co-facilitate Sobrevivientes, Cancer Services’ Hispanic Support Group, helping provide education, encouragement, and support to Spanish-speaking cancer survivors and their families. Her passion for serving others and ensuring patients have access to the care they need makes her an invaluable advocate.
Gilda’s commitment is evident in the way she responds when patients need help. When Cancer Services learned that a client was struggling to manage her health because she did not have a primary care provider, we connected her with Gilda. Within just one day, Gilda had personally reached out to the client and secured an appointment with a PCP for the very next morning—helping remove a critical barrier to care and putting the client on a better path for managing her health.
Her compassion, responsiveness, and dedication to connecting patients with the right resources make a lasting impact on the lives of those she serves.
Thank you, Gilda, for your tireless advocacy, your heart for service, and your commitment to ensuring that every patient feels supported on their cancer journey.
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
LIVESTRONG® is 12 week program (meets 2x week) that helps adult cancer survivors reclaim their health and wellbeing after cancer treatment. The program is free to all members of the community who are 18 years old or older who is living with or beyond cancer treatment. The physical activity program includes: cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises.

2026 Age-Friendly Conference
The 2026 Age-Friendly Conference (AFC) is being sponsored by Senior Services in partnership with Forsyth County DSS. This year’s conference promises to be another informative and educational experience provided at no cost to Forsyth County residents.

Hirsch Wellness Network
Hirsch Wellness, located in Greensboro NC offers therapeutic arts and wellness programs to support the emotional and physical needs of cancer survivors, patients in treatment, and caregivers at no cost!
Hirsch offers:
Yoga classes with Triad Yoga, both in person and via Zoom.
Virtual Meditation classes with Ash Poirier.
Taiji Qigong on Mondays, both in person and via Zoom.
Online chair Qigong class with Bill.
